Kris Poppe joined the Richardson Firm in 2016 after nearly 35 years of military service, including over 20 years as an Army Judge Advocate.
Kris served as an NCO in the U.S. Marine Corps and as an Army infantry officer before becoming an attorney. As an active duty Judge Advocate, Kris built a service-wide reputation for his courtroom skill and criminal law expertise and was the “go-to” trial defense counsel for high-profile and complex cases. Among those cases, he defended the only officer court-martialed in the Abu Ghraib trials and Major Nidal Hasan. Kris culminated his Army career as the first Chief of Capital Litigation for the Trial Defense Service and as a military trial judge. He has continued to be an aggressive and effective advocate for those accused of serious crimes in state, federal and military courts.
Kris graduated with distinction from the Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University and is an alumnus of The Ohio State University with a BA in History. He married his high school sweetheart, Susie, and they have two children; Lucas, an Army military intelligence officer, and Katie, a graduate student in Middle Eastern studies.
Kris is committed to continuing the Richardson Firm’s tradition of excellence in state and Federal courts and also ongoing service to the military community and military law.
